Wanoga Butte Fire Lookout

Administrative agency:  Deschutes NF

Staffing status:  NA, LO is abandoned, and in terrible condition, this tower may be torn down in the future!

Elevation:  5697 ft

Structure:  1933 30 ft wooden tower with L-4 cab

Access:  the “viewpoint” is signed several times, a gate is present approx. two miles from the tower, it is likely left opened, which also allows the tower to receive further vandalism

Road conditions:  the road is in pretty good condition, some of the plants at the top are growing over the road, and may scratch your vehicle

Interior:  probably in terrible condition like the exterior

Other structures on summit:  several small sheds are falling apart as well, a metal water tank is also present

Electrical power source:  NA

Other:  despite being listed on the NHLR, the tower has been severely vandalized, and has also been affected by weather, it was reportedly last staffed in the early 70’s, it needs help soon before it falls down all together, the bottom stairs have been removed from the tower, and there is not a great view from the ground due to trees, almost all of the windows are gone as well
