Dry Soda
Fire
Lookout
Administrative agency: Malheur NF
Staffing status: paid position
Elevation: 5593 ft
Structure: 1941 60 ft wooden tower with L-4 cab
Access: a gate is present several hundred feet from the tower, mostly for the purpose of keeping cows out, and is most likely kept opened, the LO is well signed from the pavement
Road conditions: it is possible to access the tower from several different
directions, the route I took was well graveled, and only bumpy in some parts,
only four miles from the pavement
Interior: the cab is furnished with propane and electric lighting, a propane stove, refrigerator, and heater, as well as a table, and bed
Other structures on summit: a garage is present near the tower, a permanently mounted propane tank is installed also
Electrical power source: solar power is used for the radio, lighting, and the LOs personal devices
Other: Sandy was working there during my visit, she has been working on lookouts for a number of years, she staffed Dixie in 2000, go up and say hi
Visited: Dominic Luebbers in July 2001
